Aston Villa get the match under way at Brentford Community Stadium!
Hello and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League fixture between Brentford and Aston Villa.
Brentford need to win this game if they want to gain momentum and push for a European place. They are winless in their last five games, losing three on the bounce. Thomas Frank said it shouldn’t be possible for his side to even think about a potential Europa Conference League place, but he will certainly want the Bees to return to winning ways.
Brentford (4-3-3): David Raya; Aaron Hickey, Ethan Pinnock, Ben Mee, Rico Henry; Mathias Jensen, Christian Norgaard, Vitaly Janelt; Bryan Mbeumo, Ivan Toney, Kevin Schade.
SUBS: Matthew Cox, Josh Dasilva, Yoane Wissa, Zanka, Saman Ghoddos, Frank Onyeka, Mikkel Damsgaard, Shandon Baptiste, Mads Roerslev.
Aston Villa (4-4-2): Emiliano Martinez; Ashley Young, Ezri Konsa, Tyrone Mings, Alex Moreno; Jacob Ramsey, Douglas Luiz, Leander Dendoncker, John McGinn; Ollie Watkins, Emiliano Buendia.
SUBS: Robin Olsen, Viljami Sinisalo, Diego Carlos, Bertrand Traore, Calum Chambers, Jhon Duran, Lucas Digne, Sebastian Revan, Travis Patterson.
The players are making their way out of the tunnel and onto the pitch!
Aston Villa on the other hand are on a five-match winning run and have not lost since their defeat to Arsenal in February. Unai Emery’s side are in sixth place at the moment and six points off Newcastle in fourth. Three points in this match would apply pressure on both Newcastle and Tottenham above them as those two face off tomorrow.
Despite missing a good chance, Toney was very frustrated in the first period as he wanted more service into the box. Brentford were attacking down the wide areas but struggled to beat the Villa full-backs when attempting a cross.
That's all for today, goodbye!
Brentford will be pleased with their overall performance but unhappy with their finishing in the box. Villa will be happy to leave with a point after a difficult match. The Bees remain in 10th place while Villa are now two points behind Tottenham in fifth. Emery's side host Fulham in their next game while Brentford travel to Chelsea.
