Hello and welcome to live coverage of the Premier League meeting between Aston Villa and Newcastle United at Villa Park!
Two of the in-form teams in the Premier League meet as they continue their push for a European spot. Newcastle currently sit in third place and come into today on the back of a five-match winning streak in the competition, scoring 13 times in that run, and with three of those victories coming away from home. Unai Emery has flipped Villa's season on its head, with only Arsenal winning more points than them since he took over (35 points). They're unbeaten in their last seven matches (W6 D1) since losing back-to-back games against the top two, and they've won each of their last four.
ASTON VILLA STARTING XI (4-4-2): Emiliano Martinez; Ashley Young, Ezri Konsa, Tyrone Mings, Alex Moreno; Jacob Ramsey, John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Leander Dendoncker; Ollie Watkins, Emiliano Buendia.
ASTON VILLA SUBS: Viljami Sinisalo, Jhon Duran, Calum Chambers, Sebastian Revan, Lucas Digne, Travis Patterson, Bertrand Traore, Robin Olsen, Diego Carlos.
NEWCASTLE UNITED STARTING XI (4-3-3): Nick Pope; Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Sven Botman, Dan Burn; Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes, Joe Willock; Jacob Murphy, Alexander Isak, Joelinton.
NEWCASTLE UNITED SUBS: Matt Ritchie, Elliot Anderson, Martin Dubravka, Callum Wilson, Jamaal Lascelles, Javier Manquillo, Matt Targett, Miguel Almiron, Sean Longstaff.
The teams are out on the pitch now, with kick-off just moments away!
Emery will be pleased with his side's fast start to the game, if not rueing some of the chances that they missed to give themselves a bigger lead. He'll be looking for more of the same after the break. Newcastle struggled to get going and create anything other than Isak's early chance, and Howe might be thinking about making a change to give them more of a threat.
Villa have now won their last five on the bounce, and they stay in sixth, though they're now just six points off the top four. Next up for them is a trip to Brentford. Newcastle's own five-match winning run is now over. They stay in third and will be looking to bounce back next weekend when they host Tottenham.
