We're under way in this DFB Pokal clash.
Hello and welcome to the live commentary of the DFB Pokal quarter-final clash between Bayern Munich and Freiburg at Allianz Arena.
Bayern began life under new manager Thomas Tuchel with an emphatic performance in the Bundesliga last time out against Borussia Dortmund, securing a 4-2 victory to get their title push back on track.Tuchel's men stormed into a 4-0 lead before Dortmund added late consolation efforts. Tuchel and his team now turn their attention to DFB Pokal and Freiburg, who will present a challenge for Bayern in their bid to win the competition for the first time since 2020.
Freiburg have hit a sticky patch in their impressive campaign, failing to win any of their last three outings. They were knocked out of the Europa League by Juventus, and have been held to 1-1 draws in their last outings in the Bundesliga against Mainz 05 and Hertha Berlin last time out. After losing to RB Leipzig in the final of the DFB Pokal last season, Freiburg have unfinished business in the competition, but will need to be at their absolute best tonight.
BAYERN (4-2-3-1): Yann Sommer; Benjamin Pavard, Matthijs de Ligt, Dayot Upamecano, Joao Cancelo; Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka; Leroy Sane, Thomas Muller, Kingsley Coman; Eric Choupo-Moting.
BAYERN SUBS: Serge Gnabry, Sadio Mane, Alphonso Davies, Bouna Sarr, Daley Blind, Sven Ulreich, Ryan Gravenberch, Jamal Musiala, Josip Stanisic.
FREIBURG (3-4-3): Mark Flekken; Manuel Gulde, Matthias Ginter, Michael Gregoritsch; Kiliann Sildialli, Maximilian Eggestein, Nicolas Hofler, Christian Gunter; Vincenzo Grifo, Ritsu Doan, Lucas Holer.
Bayern have had the chances to be comfortably ahead in the contest, but have lacked their usual clinical edge in the final third. Thomas Tuchel will be urging his side to be more ruthless to gain the upper hand in the contest once more.
Thanks for joining our commentary today. Until next time, goodbye.
As fate would have it, the two sides meet again on Saturday in the Bundesliga when Freiburg host Bayern.
