Hello and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Southampton and Brentford at St Mary's Stadium.
Southampton have given their survival hopes a shot in the arm with a strong run of form over the last four games. Ruben Selles has revived the fortunes of the Saints following the departure of Nathan Jones, losing only once in their last four games. Southampton have beaten Chelsea on the road and claimed a point against Manchester United at Old Trafford. They need to sustain their resurgence against the Bees, knowing a win would lift them out of the relegation zone.
Brentford saw their 12-match unbeaten run in the Premier League ended last time out against Everton as Dwight McNeil's early strike condemned them to a rare defeat. The Bees are still in contention for a European place and can close within a point of Liverpool in sixth place with a victory today. Thomas Frank will be urging his side to get back to form and the quick turnaround gives them a great chance to bounce back straightaway.
SOUTHAMPTON (4-2-3-1): Gavin Bazunu; Kyle Walker-Peters, Jan Bednarek, Armel Bella Kotchap, Romain Perraud; James Ward-Prowse, Ibrahima Diallo; Mohamed Elyounoussi, Carlos Alcaraz, Kamaldeen Sulemana; Che Adams.
SOUTHAMPTON SUBS: Adam Armstrong, Paul Onuachu, Willy Caballero, James Bree, Stuart Armstrong, Sekou Mara, Mohamed Salisu, Theo Walcott, Romeo Lavia.
BRENTFORD (4-3-3): David Raya; Aaron Hickey, Ethan Pinnock, Ben Mee, Rico Henry; Vitaly Janelt, Christian Norgaard, Mathias Jensen; Bryan Mbeumo, Ivan Toney, Kevin Schade.
BRENTFORD SUBS: Josh Dasilva, Yoane Wissa, Zanka, Samman Ghoddos, Frank Onyeka, Pontus Jansson, Mikel Damsgaard, Shandon Baptiste, Matthew Cox.
Thomas Frank will be satisifed with his side's performance, but will be urging them to wrap up the contest with a second goal. Brentford have looked dangerous in the final third, although they were wasteful until Toney's strike. If they want to challenge for a European spot they need to close this game out with a win.
Southampton are next in action against Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday at home. Brentford are also in action against Leicester City at home on the same day.
Thanks for joining our commentary today. Until next time, goodbye.
