Tottenham get the game underway at the San Siro!
Hello and welcome to the live commentary of the Champions League Round of 16 first-leg clash between Milan and Tottenham.
This match could save the job of one of these managers as both Stefano Pioli and Antonio Conte are under a bit of pressure due to the league form of their respective sides. Milan are fifth in Serie A, 18 points off the first-place Napoli, and only ended a five-game winless streak in their last game (1-0 vs Torino). Tottenham come into this game off the back of an embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Leicester on the weekend, leaving them fifth and 12 points off Arsenal at the top of the Premier League. A good Champions League run can give each team some much-needed momentum.
Milan finished second in Group E, winning three of their six games and losing both fixtures against Chelsea. They scored 12 goals in the group stages, including 4-0 wins over Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb. Spurs managed to top Group D on the final matchday after a 95th-minute winner from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg against Marseille. They also won three of their group matches and conceded just six goals, only bettered by five teams in the competition.
Milan (3-4-3): Ciprian Tatarusanu; Pierre Kalulu, Simon Kjaer, Malick Thiaw; Alexis Saelemaekers, Rade Krunic, Sandro Tonali, Theo Hernandez; Brahim Diaz, Olivier Giroud, Rafael Leao.
SUBS: Antonio Mirante, Lapo Nava, Davide Calabria, Fode Ballo-Toure, Ante Rebic, Divock Origi, Junior Messias, Tommaso Pobega, Matteo Gabbia, Charles De Ketelaere.
Tottenham (3-4-3): Fraser Forster; Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Clement Lenglet; Emerson Royal, Oliver Skipp, Pape Sarr, Ivan Perisic; Dejan Kulusevski, Harry Kane, Son Heung-min.
SUBS: Brandon Austin, Alfie Whiteman, Davinson Sanchez, Richarlison, Arnaut Danjuma, Pedro Porro, Japhet Tanganga, Lucas Moura, Ben Davies, Alfie Devine.
The players are making their way out of the tunnel and onto the pitch. There will be a moment of silence before kick-off to pay respects to those in Turkey and Syria.
Although Milan have the lead, Spurs look more likely to score the next goal at the moment. The Lilywhites look particularly dangerous from set-pieces as Son has been very good from the dead-ball situations. Leao and Hernandez are still causing problems for Spurs down the left wing, but the hosts will need to get Giroud more involved in this next half.
That's all for today, goodbye!
Milan will be happy to pick up their first-ever win over Tottenham and take a lead into the second leg, which will be played on March 8. In the meantime, Milan travel to Monza for their next game in Serie A while Spurs host West Ham in the Premier League.
